Dr. Beth Goldstein is the founding partner of Central Dermatology Center with offices serving Sanford, Raleigh, Cary, Pittsboro, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Fuquay-Varina, NC. She is the co-author of two editions of Practical Dermatology (St. Louis, Mosby) and is topic editor on multiple chapters with one of the most prestigious online evidence-based resources for clinicians, UpToDate, for many years. She continues to publish research and is frequently sought out and quoted by the media as a top expert in her field. For many years she desired to learn more surgical skills and get training in Mohs surgery, which is one of the most effective techniques available for treating skin cancers.With more than 30 years of dermatology experience, she has developed a focus on surgical dermatology, performing Mohs surgery in a quiet, comfortable setting. It’s her passion to educate patients about not only the prevention of skin cancer, but also its early detection when treatment is much more effective and less disfiguring. She also focuses on educating patients about avoiding further sun damage to their skin.While her focus is now primarily surgical, she is still involved in treating medical dermatology patients of all ages and diagnoses as a supervising physician of our excellent physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Dr. Ruth Walters is a Dermatopathologist and the director of the Dermatopathology laboratory at the Chapel Hill practice. Her clinical interests are melanocytic lesions and inflammatory dermatoses. After graduating with distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Walters received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina, School of Medicine where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and received the Merit Award for her first and second years of training. She completed a residency in Pathology and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at University of North Carolina Hospitals where she served as chief resident and was selected to receive the Medical Alumni Endowment Fund Grant for research on melanoma. She then completed a Dermatopathology fellowship at New York University and stayed on to serve as an assistant professor of Dermatology and Pathology, and as Assistant Laboratory Director. She was honored to receive the full-time attending of the year award from the Department of Dermatology in 2011 for her role in teaching dermatology residents. She is fortunate to have the opportunity to continue teaching residents in the pathology department at the University of North Carolina.When she is not at work, Dr. Walters enjoys spending time with her husband, friends, and two dogs, gardening, yoga, and volunteering as a school reading partner.
